Various possible planetary systems.

The exploration of the Solar System shows that all of the planets are very different; it is therefore interesting to see how this variety appears in other planetary systems. We can ask ourselves several questions on this subject :

  • How many planets are in a planetary system?
  • How are the orbits and the masses of the planets distributed?

Moreover, it is interesting to see how these properties correlate to the type of "parent" star, and to its position in the galaxy...

A long term motivation : the search for life

A more profound motivation is the search for life on exoplanets.
