To the question "Do other intelligent civilizations that are technologically advanced exist in the universe?", we can answer intuitively that there are countless stars, thus probably a lot of planets, and that if life (intelligence as well as technology) has emerged here, it should have happened also elsewhere.

We call this idea the mediocrity principle, which assumes that we are not exceptional. However, it is not a scientific answer. What can science say about this question?
