<-   The focal block   ->

The photons collected are concentrated by the telescope in the focal plane.

The detectors are set up in an airtight compound, called the "focal block", which allows control over their temperature and cleanliness.

This block also ensures, thanks to an efficient shield, protection against the energy radiations arising from the Earth's environment.

  • An interface ring and a setting wedge between the dioptric objective and the focal block ensure a good "focalisation" of the light on the detectors.
  • The temperature of the detectors is maintained from about -40°C and stabilized to about 5 millidegrees.

The photo of the focal block shows, on the right, the 2 detectors dedicated to the sismology program, and on the left, the detectors dedicated to the exoplanet program surrounded by a prism.
