The planetary transit phenomenon can be observed from the Earth. Indeed, sometimes the planets of the solar system closer to the Sun than the Earth, such as Mercury and Venus, cross the Sun-Earth direction. Then their shadow is projected on the solar disk.

This was the case :

  • May 7, 2003 for Mercury
  • June 8, 2004 for Venus
