The PROTEUS platform ("Plateforme Reconfigurable pour l'Observation, pour les Télécommunications et les Usages Scientifiques", i.e. platform set up for observing, telecommunications and scientific purposes), designed for satellites of about 500 kg at launching, was built by Alcatel Space Industries, a company located in Cannes (Alpes Maritimes, France). The mass of COROT is between 570 and 630 kg in launching configuration.

The PROTEUS platform, a cube with sides measuring one meter, was developed for COROT by ALCATEL in Cannes.

It provides all the resources required for the necessary function of the satellite in space :

  • Trajectory control, from a complex altitude control system.
  • Electric power, from solar panels
  • Communication with the Earth through an antenna
