Since the ancient times (Epicurius in 300 BC) people have wondered about the existence of "other worlds" and the possibility of life outside of Earth. But this question became a real field of research only 23 centuries later, with the increase in the sensitivity of the instruments.

Why do we search for exoplanets :

  • to know how planetary systems form and with what kinds of diversity
  • to know if our solar system is unique in the sky
  • to search for life around other stars...
