This is by far the most promising field. Indeed, this method allows a very rich characterization of the physical and chemical properties of the planets.

  • Atmosphere (density, composition ...)
  • Surface (colour, morphology of the oceans/continents ...)
  • Rotation of the planet ("day" duration)
  • Satellites, rings

Numerous projects are under way, on the ground and in space. This is the field that is the focus of the most activity, which is why it is expanding very quickly.
